NEA officers have found rats in four food outlets and other common areas in International Plaza, thanks to a STOMPer's tip-off. The National Environment Agency told STOMP that it will act against the food shop operators and the building management.
STOMPer Pauline spotted a large rat feeding on instant noodles in a 7-Eleven store at International Plaza. According to the STOMPer, the store assistant said that there were more rats and he had reported the problem already.
NEA told STOMP:
"The National Environment Agency (NEA) takes a serious view of any reported rodent infestation in Singapore.
"NEA officers inspected and detected the presence of rats in the 7-Eleven shop. We extended our checks and detected similar problem in 4 other food shops and several locations in the common areas of the building.
"We have required the Management Corporation of International Plaza and the operators of the shops to take action to eradicate the rats as well as to improve on housekeeping and refuse management.
"We are also taking enforcement action against the operators of the food shops and the Management Corporation Strata Title (MCST) of International Plaza.
"We will continue to monitor the situation closely.
"We take this opportunity to remind members of the public to ensure that they practise good housekeeping, store their food properly and that all refuse, especially food wastes, are properly disposed of to ensure that rats and other pests are denied a source of food."
