Man catches 3kg pomfret at MBS...with his bare hands

This lucky man caught a pomfret, weighing approximately 3kg, at Marina Bay Sands with his bare hands, before releasing it back into the water.

STOMPer maxikat, who witnessed the spectacle, said:

"There was a slight commotion at the Marina Bay Sands boardwalk tonight as a man, who only wanted to be known as Mr Chua, scooped a pomfret, estimated to be over 3kg in weight.

"The fish was observed to be swimming in a daze just under the surface of the water near the edge of the boardwalk.

"Mr Chua caught the fish out of the water with his bare hands, to the surprise and fright of several passers-by.

"The spectacle drew a small crowd to the scene.

"The fish was gently released back into the pitch dark waters of the Marina Bay water catchment area, to the applause of several onlookers."

shadowchaser: look carefully at image 1 and 3. image 1 shows that the fish is longer than the shoulders of the man. image 3 shows that the fish is wide enough to be the size of an average singapore GT size. since you claim to be a fisherman and give this kind of comments, i believe you havent caught anything reaching 2kg

shadowchaser: Are you sure a fish larger than the man's forearm can only weigh 2 kilograms? That fish certainly looks longer and much thicker than what a 2kg fish would look like. The 3kg stated in the article certainly seems to make more sense. er... Mr. fisherman?

varanus_salvator is right, it's not a promfet but a Pompano/ Dart. Anyway, unlike the promfet, these are quite lousy tasting. They are often found in brackish water around river mouths and estuaries, too much freshwater can cause it's buoyancy to go haywire and eventually die from it.

Similarly, very often when the reservoir releases water out to the sea, some of those freshwater fishes that was flushed out to sea started floating about near the surface, some species will survive, and some don't!
