S'pore restaurant sells braised dog meat: Legal or not? Where do they get the meat?

At first glance, what this restaurant serves looks like typical Chinese fare. However, STOMPer EDMWer was surprised to see one item offered on the menu is braised dog meat. Is this legal, he questions, and where do they get the meat from?

EDMWer wrote in his email (May 9):

"Dog meat for sale in Singapore.

"This 'China-nese'-run restaurant is selling dog meat.

"Is it legal?

"Did the authorities approve of dog meat imports?"

STOMP understands that the Chinese restaurant, located at Jurong East, is part of a chain of restaurants which originated in China and purportedly serves authentic Dong Bei cuisine.

Hey chocolastar, we know our ROOTS, I'm proud to say we are all singaporeans!! I have Chinese blood in me, n I never proclaimed myself originating frm CHINA, I have Malay blood in me, n I never proclaimed myself to be originating frm Malaysia.. We are SINGAPOREANS, and singaporeans just don't behave that way, like it or not! Apparently these PRCs don't think the way we think and do things here... We have our culture too,but we don't let race or religion stand in our way.. So if u want to back them up, by all means... I stand firm by saying... No matter what, WE ARE SINGAPOREANS!! Not of china descendants or Malaysia descendants!! SINGAPOREANS!!!!!

Eversince GOV let these PRCs comes in a flock, they are beginning to legalized everything on their own, what nonsense! I'm a Muslim by religion and I strongly believed what they are doing is INHUMANE!!!( sorry I love dogs too, even though I can't touch it directly) Isn't the Authorities doing anything abt these?? Where are all the SPCAs or AVAs? My Goodness, Singapore is turning into a CHINApore in time to come!

Finally....across the tonight news, the so call dog meat dishes has proven not guilty as charge. The restaurant owner should therefore move on and let the result prove their innocent. As for the dog lover group, it is right to end here and move on to their most important task at hand as there are still many stray dogs crying for their help....however it seem that they are requesting the authority to charge the owner for using misleading wording to the public which i heard over the news. Lets sit down and speculate, will this cause a big wave of tsunami that implicate most the restaurants too based on menu use by them on wrongful wording if any and if such a pursuit do carry out as requested by the group. Sometimes we wonder again......
