Several STOMPers took photos of some shophouses along New Bridge Road in Chinatown that caught fire at about 4.30pm today (Feb 17).
One of the STOMPers, Astrid, said:
"I was at work today at around 4.15pm. We saw a fire in Chinatown from our office window.
"I'm worried for the shophouses as they are very old.
"I hope everyone is all right and nobody got hurt."
STOMPer, almond creamers said the fire happened near Lim Chee Guan, a bak kwa shop.
Said the STOMPer:
"Chinatown shophouses on fire.
"I saw this at around 4.30pm. Smoke was coming from the shophouses near Lim Chee Guan."
Another STOMPer, Gongkia, wrote:
"There is a fire outbreak at the heart of Chinatown somewhere near Mei Zhen Xiang BBQ Pork.
"It happened at about 3.45pm today.
"There was a huge crowd watching the 'show' while waiting for the fire engines to arrive."
The SCDF received a call at 4.26pm informing them of the fire.
They sent one ambulance, one red rhino, one fire engine and two support vehicles to the scene.
Upon arrival, they saw thick black smoke coming out of an exhaust duct at the rooftop and a shophouse.
SCDF officers used a water jet to put out the fire.
No one was injured.
