STOMPer Flautist was delighted when he walked down Chinatown today. An old man was playing the erhu with much gusto and was even wearing his new year clothes.
Writes Flautist in his email (Jan 29):
"These pictures were taken at Smith Street in Chinatown.
"As the lunar new year is approaching, Chinatown is filled with shoppers and tourists.
"My attention was arrested by the sound of the erhu floating in the air.
"I spotted this old man in his new year clothes and he was playing animatedly from his repertoire of popular new year songs on his erhu.
"Many tourists were so impressed with his music that they did not hesitate to cast their money into his donation box.
"He was playing with gusto and his showmanship captivated the passers-by.
"Indeed, music transcends age, race and language and his erhu music helped to usher in the Year of the Rabbit."
