As the year of the rabbit approaches, we see more and more rabbits depicted everywhere. However, it is important to remember that though adorable, these furry animals are a commitment not to be taken lightly.
It is not surprising to find that many people will buy rabbits to keep or to use as gifts during the Chinese New Year festivities, says STOMPer Jacelyn.
Such impulse buying is irresponsible and often leads to abandonment and untimely deaths of the rabbits.
According to information provided by the STOMPer, a total of 625 rabbits were abandoned in 1999, which was also a year of the rabbit.
The number was a 116 per cent higher than the number for rabbits abandoned the year before.
Jacelyn says:
"Help spread this message to not buy pet rabbits on impulse this, the Year of the Rabbit.
"Help our furry friends this Chinese New Year".
