Former Romanian diplomat Silviu Ionescu was released from detention late Thursday night in Romania.
He had been held in preventive custody at Rahova prison in Bucharest for seven months.
Ionescu is facing charges of homicide, causing physical injuries and making false statements, arising from two hit-and-run accidents in Singapore last December.
STOMPer Az wonders why Ionescu's trial, which began on July 23, is taking so long. He says:
"Silviu Ionescu was released from detention early this morning (Nov 26), at about 4am, Singapore time.
"He apparently still considers himself innocent, despite strong evidence against him.
"Question is, why is trial taking so long and in the meantime, he's allowed to enjoy freedom?
"Considering that one person is dead because of the accident he was allegedly involved in, isn't he being treated too leniently?
"Crime was done in Singapore so he should be brought back to Singapore to stand trial.
"Singapore authorities are best party to handle the case."
