RSAF Apache helicopter crash-lands in Woodlands field, sends tail flying 50m away

STOMPer Quintus was driving past an open field in a residential area in Woodlands Avenue 12 at about 3.30pm today (Sep 30) when he saw this RSAF Apache helicopter crash-landing into the field, sending its tail flying about 50 metres away.

Said the STOMPer:

"I saw the helicopter circling in the air, coming down rapidly, before crash landing into the field.

"There was no one else on the field.

"The two pilots later got out of the helicopter and I saw them standing around."

Another STOMPer, Roger, received photos of the fallen Apache via MMS.

He said: "My friend was driving in the area when he saw the crash, so he sent the photos to me."

Mindef has issued a statement about the incident in a press release. It said:

"A Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) AH-64 Apache helicopter made an emergency landing in an open field between Woodlands Ave 12 and Woodlands Dr 64 at about 1530 hrs today.

"The helicopter was on a routine maintenance flight when it encountered engine problems. As an emergency drill, the pilots chose an open field away from buildings and populated areas to make the emergency landing. The tail section of the helicopter was damaged during the landing.

"Both pilots are unhurt. There is also no damage to civilian property or injury to personnel.

"An RSAF response team led by Brigadier-General Wong Huat Sern, Commander Participation Command, is on site to manage the situation and recover the aircraft."

like i said dotangel, if you own a house, would you install the security alarms as soon as you can, or wait till you see a burglar around before starting to install the alarms? Stomp should let us be able to identify them. when sg reallt gets attacked one day, i'll make sure if i see these people, i'll leave them alone.

And i totally agree with brainmore. well said.
