STOMPer Joshua was at Sim Lim Tower when he saw a van catch fire this evening. He also witnessed proactive workers from the same building who used fire hoses to control the situation before the SCDF arrived ten minutes later.

The STOMPer sent in a video and a picture of the incident via email (Sep 2):

"I saw a van on fire at Jalan Besar this evening around 5.20pm.

"I was at the fourth floor of Sim Lim Tower overlooking the incident.

"Workers from Sim Lim Tower were seen using the fire fighting hose at the level 4 carpark to assist in putting out the fire.

"People from the shops nearby also aided in the fire-fighting using fire extinguishers, but those proved ineffective against the blazing flames.

"There were also workers and people at the upper level (level 5) helping to put out the fire using the fire-fighting hose from the carpark.

"Rhinos and a fire engine arrived about 10 mins later."

"It seems no one was hurt, and the driver got out of the van in time."
