More than 300 fans at Chinatown were alarmed when the Getai host set Taiwanese singer Kai Li's costume on fire during her onstage performance last night (Aug 26).

According to a news report, the sexily-dressed singer was performing the song, Dong Tian Li De Yi Ba Huo (冬天里的一把火), while dancing on a chair. The host was circling her and holding a lighter, in an attempt to heat up the atmosphere, before the unfortunate incident occurred.

A horrified Kai Li immediately tore off her skirt and the host poured a pail of water on it to extinguish the fire.

The host later claimed that the 'fire' had been arranged beforehand to be part of Kai Li's act and that it was meant to be a special surprise for the audience.

However, Kai Li said that she did not know of such an arrangement but was not worried as she trusted the host knew what he was doing.

STOMPer Steric, who came across the video online, said:

"Getai singer Kai Li's costume caught fire on stage last night.

"A pail of water was thrown to extinguish the fire."
