Tabitha Magendran, who has an Indian father, blows all aspiring Chinese pop starlets out of the water.
She will be the only one competing with a Chinese song, "Wo Niu Yu Huang Li Niao (A Snail And A Bird)", in the Under 15 category in the upcoming MMSing Talent Awards 2010.
With a Chinese mother who is "very strict" about the standard of her Mandarin, and a grandmother who teaches her Hokkien, Tabitha's inclination towards performing Chinese language songs is of little surprise.
Tabitha began singing at the age of four and subsequently got selected to perform in her school talent shows. She also took part in island-wide competitions, taking top prizes for some of them.
Starting at a tender age explains Tabitha's utter lack of stage fright and instead, abounding confidence. This is a good quality for someone who harbours dreams of becoming a multilingual singer in the future.
With contestants ranging from the age of eight all the way to 62, the MMSing Talent Awards' grand finals on July 28 will be a showcase of unique and diverse talents. The three best singers from Category A (15 years and older), and those from Category B (under 15) will walk away with up to $15,000 in prizes.
