Soh Jin Seng loves to sing Chinese folk songs and was a finalist in a national karaoke competition before. The 62-year-old trading representative is eager to hear his younger counterparts in the grand finals of the MMSing Talent Awards on Jul 28.
As the eldest finalist in the MMSing Talent Awards contest, Jin Seng is not worried about his younger competitors. He will be competing against 14 other finalists for cash prizes worth $15,000 in the finals on Jul 28. The youngest finalist is an 8-year-old girl.
"The MMSing contest is a good thing because it is open to anyone in the nation, no matter what age.
"I just want to showcase my singing to everyone out there. I am surprised and very happy to be in the finals."
Jin Seng admits that he is self-taught and learns singing from youtube videos.
"In my free time, I like to watch people singing on youtube. I learn a lot about music from watching the videos."
Jin Seng's wife and son attended the MMSing rehearsals with him and gave him encouragement and well wishes for the finals.
His wife hopes, "He is still recovering from sinus recently. I wish he will be able to gain his full health and sing his best."
Jin Seng's son adds, "Just do what you always do Dad."
