Aisyah Salim is only 14, but she is not new to fame. In 2008, she sang for the President at the Istana and performed at the Si Chuan Earthquake Concert. Since then, she has not only been attending singing lessons, but hosting and acting classes as well.
Her vocal coach praises her singing abilities and she is placed in the 'Team Star' category of her vocal school.
The Geylang Methodist Secondary School student, is one of the 15 finalists of MMSing Talent Awards 2010, a unique online singing contest organised by STOMP.
At a tender age of three, Aisyah was exposed to her uncle's singing and from then, she nurtured her love for it. Nowadays, she also sings to de-stress. In fact, part of her daily life includes singing in school, and she tells STOMP, "The teacher asks me to shut up, but I still sing."
Despite her prior singing experiences and training, she does not feel that she has an edge over others.
"The other contestants are also good", said Aisyah.
When she first submitted a video of her singing, she garnered more than 1,500 votes. Her supporters wrote in praise of her singing capabilities: " You have the talent! Keep singing. May you shine. Good luck Aisyah, we pray for your success!"
Her 'fanbase' is large, as her parents tell us there are overwhelming responses from her friends who want to support her on the 28 of July, the day of the competition.
