STOMPer Christine thinks that overwhelmed storm canals may be a reason for the floods at Orchard Road and other areas yesterday (Jun 16). Other STOMPers who were at the flood scenes have sent in more pictures and videos.

"One of the contributing reason for the flood at Orchard Road, Bukit Timah, Dunearn, Rochor etc is because all the various canals around Singapore which flows to the Kallang River or the sea are stretched to maximum capacity.
"This leads to some canals overflowing and flooding low-lying areas."
The flood on Orchard Road yesterday morning (Jun 17) took shoppers, workers and the authorities by surprise.
More than 100mm of rain fell in two hours. This is about 60 per cent of the entire month's rainfall, which averages 162mm.
The flood waters damaged four stores at Liat Towers: designer boutiques Hermes and Massimo Dutti, newly-opened Wendy's fast food joint, and Starbucks cafe.
The deluge was caused by winds converging over Singapore, bringing heavy rain clouds and unstable weather conditions, said the National Environment Agency.
