Pouring rain island-wide has turned Orchard Road into a "river", with many STOMPers sending in reports, pictures and videos of the flood. The SCDF had to rescue people trapped in their waterlogged vehicles.
More than 60 people on two double-decker buses and other vehicles stranded in the flood, including children, had to be assisted to safety by SCDF personnel.
A spokesperson for the SCDF said:
"At the junction of Orchard Road/Paterson Road, the SCDF dispatched two fire engines and assisted about 60 passengers from 2 SBS Transit double-decker buses and about ten people from six cars stranded in their vehicles to safety.
"In some cases, SCDF personnel had to carry children out of the vehicles. None were injured."
The SCDF also rendered assistance at several other locations.
STOMPer Anna was making her way to work in the morning near Cuscaden road, and was stunned by the severity of the flooding.
She relates:
"I was on the way to work in a taxi when I caught sight of the severe flooding in the area. This was at 10.15am this morning.
"The water is approximately wheel-deep. Car engines refuse to work, the water level is still rising and did I just see a wooden plank float past?
"This is the first time I've seen such flooding in this area."
