It's so, so cruel the way they kill stray dogs in Bali

Bali might be an island paradise to most Singaporeans. But STOMPer Animal Lover J feels that it is unnecessary for the authorities to cull stray dogs in an inhuman way just so that it would not affect tourism in the Indonesian island.

In an email sent to STOMP, the STOMPer wrote:

"Even if you are not animal lover, you will feel disgusted and angered at the Bali's method of culling stray dogs. They are using a method known as strychnine poisoning – an inhumane and violent killing method.

"According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Foundation, a UK-based charity: 'Strychnine poisoning is among the cruellest killing methods available because it can cause severe pain and discomfort before death.

"'In a best-case scenario, dogs who are poisoned with strychnine start exhibiting symptoms such as nervousness and stiffness within 30 to 60 minutes of ingesting the poison. After that, dogs may become more sensitive to light, touch and sound and will suffer severe seizures – sometimes for several hours – until they die of exhaustion or suffocation.

"'Most dogs who are baited don't ingest enough strychnine to die quickly, or they may absorb it more slowly if they eat the bait on a full stomach, meaning that symptoms last longer and the animals die more slowly'.

"In the clip, we can clearly see the dogs' muscle actually contracted and they collapse to ground, groaning in pain and finally dead.

"The 'murderer' will then drag its body on the ground to dispose of.

"This is certainly an inhumane massacre of the helpless dogs that are so defencelessly killed.

"Why can't human just let them have that little space on earth to survive?

"Experts agree that mass vaccination of the dog population is the only effective way to control rabies outbreaks.

"If Bali authorities insist on culling, can't they do it in a painless and humane way like Singapore's SPCA? It is really a pain to see the animals die a slow, painful death in Bali.

"How can we do something to stop the inhumanity act by Bali authorities?

I have ever seen videos depicting how Koreans kill those unwanted/stray dogs. They would tie the dogs' limbs and hang them under the trees, then someone would use the baseball bats and bash them to death! Talking about cruelty!

Some people tend to see animals as something with no value and they can do whatever they like to them. May they have their retribution that they will have similar fate as these animals someday.
