Nancy claims ex-Romanian envoy Silviu Ionescu employed a trick to get her phone number against her will. She alleges that it happened after he apparently tried to pick her up at a social event.

The former Romanian diplomat is involved in a fatal hit-and-run case that took place in Singapore last Dec 15, is currently in the custody of the Romanian authorities.

Here is Nancy's story:

"It was at a social event. I was with my friend and he came forward to introduce himself. We chatted for sometime and he seemed friendly and flirtatious. He even offered to help me find a job though I am already employed. When I walked off to another spot with my friend, he followed us. He seemed sober at the time.

"When we were chatting, he asked if I have a number. I said no because I did not want to give him my contact details. When I was about to go home from the event, I happened to be holding my mobile in my hand. He appeared out of nowhere and said he couldn’t find his phone.

"What happened next really shocked me. He snatched my phone and called himself so that he could ‘find’ his phone. Well, his phone rang and it was in his pocket all along! It all happened so fast, and I realised he tricked me so that he could have my number. Alarm bells started ringing in my head about the kind of person he really is.

"He pretended nothing happened. He even asked me out for dinner and offered to send me home. I declined immediately.

"He called a couple of days after the event. At first I didn’t know it was him as I didn’t save his number in my phone. He asked me out for dinner again and I declined. I made doubly sure to save his number after the call so that I’d know to avoid picking up his calls in the future.

"He persisted in calling a few more times but I continued to ignore him. He invited me for a Romanian event and I ignored him again. He finally gave up after that and that was the last contact from him.

"It was my boyfriend who alerted me to the news. My boyfriend knew Silviu Ionescu was bothering me for sometime. We would joke about it from time to time but after the news broke, both of us followed the case out of curiosity."
