STOMPer Arpan wants to clarify about the glow in the sky over Jurong Island, saying that it was not the work of UFOs or 'aliens', as some might have thought, but by flarings at the oil refineries.
Arpan said:
"Last few nights, Jurong Island refineries have been releasing plumes of flame into the sky.
"This is causing the sky to light up as most people are seeing throughout Singapore.
"Here are pictures of the flame taken from Bukit Batok."
STOMP has been receiving numerous reports on the sighting.
STOMPer Kevin said:
"I'm concerned about mysterious lights brightening the sky intermittently.
"I'm wondering if there was a fire in the area (Bishan area from my perpective), but the light has been flashing for the past 5 hours since it was first spotted, so it might not be a fire after all."
STOMPer Chye was also perplexed by the sighting. He said:
"Can someone explain this to me? Why does this happen?"
STOMPer Ning also managed to take a photo of the incident. Said the STOMPer:
"I saw this the first time (glowing red sky) for less than 5 minutes at midnight and yesterday (Mar 13) for the second time while I was at Plaza Singapura at about 10pm.
"However, STOMPer Glenn was aware that the glow came from the oil refineries, and was concerned about how it might affect the the public.
He said:
"It would be a 'glowing concern' for those staying in the south west of Singapore should any major accident were to happen there."
STOMPer Joseph sent in a video of the flaring as well.
Meanwhile, STOMPer Hei Pai Tian Xin thought it was a fire.
The STOMPer wrote:
"Fire lit the sky behind Queen's Close down Portsdown Road. I wonder what happened there, I can see it from my house's windows."
