2 SCDF officers injured while fighting shophouse fire

A shophouse in Number 2 Moonstone Lane caught fire today (Jan 21) at about 11am.

The SCDF said in a news release.

"SCDF received a call at 11.12am informing of a fire at No. 2 Moonstone Lane. SCDF resources were immediately dispatched to the incident site.

"Upon arrival, fire was found raging from the two-storey shop house. SCDF firefighters immediately set up water jets and pitched ladder to gain access into the shophouse.

"As the fire had partially burnt through the roof, water jets were used to tackle the fire from the top.

"The fire involved contents of the shop comprising large quantities of hardware spare parts, machine parts and rubber conduits.

"Fire was brought under control in about 45 mins. Two SCDF firefighters were sent to TTSH due to minor injuries sustained during the fire fighting operations.

"They received outpatient treatment and have since been discharged. No occupant and members of public was injured in this fire.

"The unit sustained extensive damage. The fire was confined to the unit and did not spread to adjoining units. The cause of the fire is being investigated."

Fireman's Creed

When I'm called to duty God,
Wherever flames may rage,
Give me strength to save a life,
Whatever be it's age.
Help me to embrace a little child,
Before it is too late.
Or save an older person from,
The horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert,
To hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently,
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and,
To give the best in me,
To guard my neighbor and,
Protect his property.
And if according to your will,
I have to lose my life,
Bless with your protecting hand,
My children and my wife.
