For real? Giant fish caught in Australian waters

STOMPer Kelissa received an email about a giant fish recently caught in Australian waters. she wonders if the story is genuine.

She said:

"I received an email about a giant fish recently caught in Australian waters.

"The pictures look real.

"But I was wondering why the media didn't report this if it was real.

"Sounds suspicious?"

editor77 is right, it's an oarfish. Found mostly in deeper waters of the open ocean, so it's rarely encountered.

The photos in the post appear to have been taken from this site:

The pictures don't document an actual catch in Australia, but just a few encounters.
