Good job St Nick's girls, but where are all the boys?

When the 'O' Level results were released yesterday, CHIJ (Saint Nicholas) cheered as 14 out of the top 43 students were Saint Nick's girls. This left a STOMPer wondering why there were so few boys on the list.

STOMPer examfever wonders why there were only 10 boys in the list of 43 top students in Singapore.

While CHIJ (St. Nicholas) took up 14 places on the list, 8 top students came from Crescent Girls' School.

The boys who scored a place on the top 43 came from various schools including Anderson Secondary School, Catholic High, Saint Joseph's Institution and Xinmin Secondary School.

Examfever asks on January 12:

"Where were the boys in the top students' list?

"Why was the list dominated by girls again this year?"

STOMP was at CHIJ (St. Nicholas) and Bedok View Secondary School to capture those moments of joy and anxiety during the release of results.

I agree with driecter. RI, HCI and ACS(I) have reputable intelligent boys but they also have their own IP systems where they go straight through to do their A levels without wasting time studying for O's. If it werent for the IP system, there would probably be the same or a higher number of male top scorers.

From PSLE to GCE, our local students are fast losing out to foreign students. Foreign students are more hard working than local students and excel in their studies. Local students now still 'yayapapaya' wait till they go into society then they will have a hard time finding good jobs, becos the employers will hire those foreign talents first.

Most of the smarter boys are in the through-train system which allows them to go straight to A levels without doing O levels. This includes RI and HCI which are all-boys school =)
