Tree branch falls and pierces car windscreen

The driver of this car should thank his lucky stars he was not in his vehicle when a large tree branch fell and penetrated the windscreen, cracking it upon impact.

STOMPer Ken spotted this at Changi Village on December 22 and says that although it was an unfortunate incident, it was a good thing the driver was not in the car at that moment.

In an email, he says:

"Taken at Changi Village carpark on December 22 at 5pm.

"No, I don't know the owner and didn't see him/her.

"It was after an afternoon shower when the fallen branch pierced through the windscreen..."

It is possible that somebody took a branch and smashed it, no?
The storm must have been incredibly strong to give the branch enough velocity to break the glass, which to me is quite unlikely, though it is also possible.
