A STOMPer said that her visiting Korean friend missed her flight because a dishonest Silvercab driver drove off with her belongings, which included important documents like her plane ticket and passport.
In an email sent to STOMP, the STOMPer wrote:
“I am writing in on behalf of my Korean friend.
“She took a Slivercab (Toyota) on Nov 18, 1845hrs at Balestier Rd to go to Punggol to drop off some things before going to the airport to catch her flight back to Korea.
“The taxi driver took her to the destination and offered to help her carry the boxes to the lift. As her friend was still in the lift, the taxi driver told her that he would wait for her in the taxi.
“Less than a minute, my friend ran back to the place where the taxi was only to realise that he had already drove off with her luggage and her handbag.
“Her luggage and bag contains important documents such as her air ticket, passport, visa, cash (SGD, USD, Korean WON), laptop, camera, mp3 player, two Gucci bags, a coach bag and her credit cards.
“He left without collecting the taxi fare which makes it more obvious that he had it all planned to just drive off with her belongings.
“As he was very friendly and polite earlier, my friend did not sense that he was up to anything. She did not manage to take down his number plate.
“This incident caused my friend to miss her flight and also suffered huge monetary loss.
“She reported the incident to Slivercab right after the incident happened but the person whom she spoke to only told her to wait and they will get back to her. She didn't hear from them till she called back again the next day and they only told her that her items are still not found.
“She lodged a police report on the night itself but the police did not do a proper statement for her till she went back on the Nov 20 to check the status.
“The other policeman who attended to her still asked her, why did she took so long to report?
“We tried calling Slivercab a few times to check the status and also requested to speak to the higher management but all we get was either the managers are not in office or we'll have to wait for the police to investigate.
“I just think that it absolutely ridiculous that a case like this would allow the police to turn a deaf ear too.
“The fact that the victim was a tourist only shows how ungracious people are.
“I think relevant authorities and agencies should offer help at times like this.”

Silvercab or silvrcab ?
Put the pressure on the taxi company and police. You must also go the straits times and have this matter made public. I am sure the driver will be caught soon. The time and date will tell who the drive was. There is no escape.
***** Cabby. Can u and ur friend report to the media and ake this issue a big one. That cab company will not give a shit about ur complain unless something big strikes them. So the answer is: Media. This should not happen in SG. I pity ur fren.
