Hospital staff stops me from seeing mother-in-law, even though she is scared of being alone

STOMPer Bryan was upset that he was not allowed to see his mother-in-law after visiting hours at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, even when he feels she needed family members to be around.

Said the STOMPer:

"Last night (Nov 19), I was at TTSH at 9.43pm and was stopped by a senior staff informing me that the visiting hours are over.

"I explained to the staff that my mother-in-law was going for an operation and sought his understanding and allow my wife and I to the ward.

"He only allowed my wife to go up and stopped me from joining.

"I explained to him about being there for someone who is in need of human touch.

"He kept telling me he understood but stopped me.

"Where was the spirit of being concerned for patients?

"I seriously do not understand why there's no flexibility with regard to such rules.

"It wasn't as though the patient was sleeping and we were disturbing.

"The patient was scared and we just wanted to be there.

"We hope the hospital will reconsider such rules."

People have the tendency to believe that those working for the government has not the need to pay tax, which of course is otherwise. Concerning the regulations at TTSH, protocols are protocols. Visitors should be mature enough to understand & be rational as well as selfless regarding this. Mature enough to understand that these protocols are developed by the governments. So those who aren't happy should shoot the government instead of the hospitals & its staffs. Rational enough to know that hospitals are for the sicks to recover & rest. Not for visiting purposes. And selfless towards others, especially patients & hospital staffs.

gracesccc, again quick to criticize women for the sake of criticizing without being relevant to the post. The person who stopped stomper Bryan is a guy, read the post properly. So now maybe we should preach to the world all guys are unfair if we were to learn your ways of generalizing the whole sex to be this so on and so forth without consideration that everyone receives their share of unfairness while they are also no less guilty of contributing it onto others. Just like you did blindly here, is it fair to women viewers now?

my_father> thank you for the wishes :) well i feel that in such operation, it is reasonable to allow 'visitor'. if it's just visiting, then i will just blame myself for not being there earlier. btw, if it's discharge... they didnt stop the number of 'visitor' going to the ward. just dont make any sense.

iluvstomp3> wahaha... good answer.
antiracist > i undergo 4 x operation in my 10days stay in SGH before. i understand the feeling abt being disturbed and also the feeling of not having anyone for me when being pushed into the ops.
lovesucks> same here, and waste thing is that later i saw other visitor granted access!
bertdopod> im not there to visit someone who is resting on bed instead someone being pushed for Ops
novaman_sg> thank you so much. yup, luckily she's fine and recovering now.

jahangir> i agree with you. that's why when the visiting hours is up, i left the place and was informed abt the operation which i return again.
hellpone> hospital rules is not a Singapore law. even if law, there's still case to case situation.
dontbsmee> yup, i understand that staff which is why i didnt f him or do anything bad or curse him. but after knowing that there's other people granted access for visiting rather like my situation, im rather pissed.

onenightstd> glad to hear that. the staff who rejected my access just dont understand and rejected me even after confirming the operation.
jovis.low> i was there early. but the operation was a last min thingy which i've left the place and make a u-turn. so even if i reach early.... no use.

shizuKAT> i know the time but i guess you dont understand the situation. they last min say operation is possible and hence called and inform abt the operation.
crossair> i believe no one wanna have a chalet in a hospital for such situation. this is not being selfish. when the needle poke you, by then i believe you will understand the pain. Talk is cheap; Action is deep. wait till one day u face with a situation that rules are there but flexibility shld be given. btw, fyi.. there're VISITOR granted access by other staff and they're going to visit patients who're warded while Im not going there to pay my visit rather concern abt the operation. why this double standard?

TrashTaling > 8pm visiting hrs over, hence i left. Nurse called and said operation and i rush back to the hospital which is why it's 9.43pm
Mailailah > yup i tried my luck again at 11.45pm (operation still on) and i was granted access by the next shift staff.
christoz_sg > im not going to the ward to make noise or to pay a visit but rather go back due to the operation.
