School kids slip and fall in heavy floods

STOMPer Sylvester saw school children slipping and falling into drains because of the heavy flood at Bukit Timah today (Nov 19). He says:

"This is the flood at King's, Prince and Coronation Road at Bukit Timah.

"The flood was heaviest during after school hours where many students had to navigate their way through murky water.

"The murky water caused some students to fall into the drains.

"Also, many parents in their vehicles braced the flood waiting for their kids and many of these vehicles stalled because of the flood.

"This flooding occurs in this area during the year end rainy season."

To Kopisewdai: Glad to hear your comment, its heartening to see that you view this situation with lots of anxiety and extreme concern. There were ppl in a nearer distance to render help with immediate effect as compared to distance where the photograph was taken. So no worries. Surely you will be one of those that will use ur brains and render assistance also. =)
SmarterThanYou: They are just young innocent primary school students.

Children in danger and the first thing you do is take pix of them? In heavy rain and flood? Where's your brain?

It's the first time hearing floods in SG. This shows how much near world end is. It is still not that bad compared to other countries yet people are panicking already. It'll be so much worser in 2012 if the rumors came true.

The girl was helped out and was brought to a nearby house where she contacted her parents and seek shelter at till the flood starts to subside. Residents along that stretch of road started to coming out and warn students to stay away from the open drains. The school should have taken some measures when floods occurs, especially during after school hours.

To mimi1793: since in this case, what do u suggest?

I hope the girl who fell into the drain is OK. She could have been swept away in the moonsoon drain and drowned. Stomper, did you take these pictures? Were you not able to help that girl out?

I was waddling thru knee high murky waters from Coronation Plaza's NTUC with bags of grocery and an umbrella. I've never encountered such flooding in my years there. I thought the Marina Barrage was constructed to alleviate flooding problems, wasn't it? Saw a Nanyang Primary school girl cut her foot very badly. She probably got cut waddling thru the flood. Her sole was bleeding as she grimaced in pain... Poor thing...
