Suspected robber fighting for life after assault by Malaysian cops and crowd

A STOMPer came across this video of a suspected robber being assaulted by Malaysian police and crowd while he was trying to escape.

The STOMPer says:

"My colleague, who's a Malaysian, read the story and brought it to my attention. "It shocks me to realise that Malaysian civillians are allowed to get involved in the law. Take a look at the footage where the civilian used a hammer four times on the robber.

"Another civilian holds him down while another civilian takes full shots at the robber with his fists. "The video clearly showed the officers allowing the robber to be beaten repeatedly before intervening.

"Although the suspect could have been a robber, still isn't it the job of the police officers uphold the law?

"This opens up debate and questions the integrity of the police officers in Malaysia. Is this the right way to handle criminals?"

Here are the details based on a report in the New Straits Times:

“A suspected robber is fighting for his life in a hospital after he was attacked by an angry crowd in Pandan Indah on Aug 26.

“Apparently, a workshop owner spotted the suspected robber and his accomplice just as he was about to leave for work. Ten days earlier, they had snatched a RM4,000 gold chain from him while he was out jogging.

“With the help of the police, the workshop owner gave chase and finally cornered the suspects near a petrol station.

“Policemen surrounded the car and drew out their guns while ordering the suspects out of their vehicle.

"The two refused to come out. The driver kept revving the engine and the policemen were forced to break the car windows to drag them out.

"The suspects put up a fight and tried to make a run for it.

"By this time, a group of people had gathered at the scene and some of them attacked the suspects.

“By the time the police rescued them, one was badly injured while the other suffered cuts and bruises.

“They were sent to a private hospital and later transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were linked to a string of robberies and break-ins in the area.”

though i took pity on the unlucky robber, this is a classic example on wannabe robbers to take cautious. If you dare, you are dead.
