Jackie Chan on his anti-S'pore comments: HK newsmen quoted me wrongly

STOMPer linghuyi filmed Jackie Chan doing the rumba with his fitness trainers yesterday (May 16).

"Jackie Chan can dance," remarked the amused STOMPer.

The 55-year-old action superstar was in town to grace the third anniversary celebrations of California Fitness' Jackie Chan Sport at Velocity @ Novena Square.

When Jackie was asked to clarify his anti-Singapore comments at the Boao Forum in Hainan, he smiled amiably and said: "I have nothing to clarify, it was simply taken out of context."

Just two weeks ago, Jackie's speech at the forum had incurred the wrath of several Singaporean netizens.

He was quoted as wondering why he couldn't chew gum in Singapore, then gave his take on it: "If I let you chew gum, those people will leave them on tables and chairs. They have no self-respect at all."

He referred those in the Hong Kong media who stoked the controversy as "the black sheep of the media profession".

"You have these bad eggs who falsify news, just to sell a couple more of their newspapers."

"This time, I must say I've fallen into their trap," he said.

Another point that Jackie emphasised more than once during the interview: I love Singapore.

Going by the huge turnout at his sports club celebration, his adoration for Singapore was returned with equal affection.

Don't you know the media will print anything to sell their papers. They will manipulate their interviews to make it sensational. Look at the Straits Times.Anyway, it's true right? There are some Singaporeans who have no self-respect. These are the bad eggs who are ruining our reputation.

The media might have misquoted him but why did people believe it readily? Not because they are all gullible, it is because of his reputation as a big mouth. He loves Singapore('s money). I think he is a disgusting old lecher who can't keep his stupid comments to himself. He can say what he wants to his sycophantic lackeys but it will not change the fact that he may have fame and fortune, he has no shame.

By looking at the huge turnout to support Jackie, the crowds had proven Singaporean lack self respect.
