More accidents involving delivery riders: Too much pressure to be on time?

A pizza delivery rider was involved in an accident yesterday (Sep 17) at Hougang. STOMPer Anastasia, who saw the accident, is concerned about the pressure on delivery riders to be punctual which might cause them to risk their lives.

She said:

"I chanced upon this scene at about 10.30pm yesterday. This was at Hougang Mall's car park.

"I don't know much as I didn't actually see the accident but I heard that the delivery guy was not badly hurt, fortunately.

"I wouldn't have posted this if not for the fact that I've seen countless delivery riders risking their lives - and those of innocent others - daily with their speeding, illegal u-turns and such. I hope young drivers out there will think twice before endangering their lives like this.

"There should also be more pressure on Pizza Hut and other companies with delivery services to allow their drivers more time to complete the delivery.

"I wonder if the Land Transport Authority has any comments."

To Stomp_trooper and Joyful, they're under pressure, thus they weave in and out of other vehicles. i work in a f&b outlet with delivery service and i can safely say, customers are all wanting to "expedite order pls" and "pls reach at xx SHARP!!" sometimes our riders reach later than the supposed time, they'll start emailing and complaining to the main branch. like wtf they think the riders are?? have a heart la, they're people too. be thankful they send you food *****. have you ever thought that they, too, probably haven't had their lunch/dinner/breakfast yet they're rushing to make you happy by delivering your food on time and this is what they get in return. inconsiderate *****s.

Problem of these delivery riders are mainly on their Malaysian bikes who "suka-suka" likes to "weave-in-&-out" of fast moving traffic as though his 'kampung' - so 'How Not be involved in accidents ?' Hope their responsible owners (MacDonalds, KFC, PizzaHut,...) able to discipline them as more responsive to the community. Just Wonder 'Are they legal on "Work Permit" or illegal "MoonLighters" here hor ? HOPE MOM/LTA/ICA WILL CHECK ON THESE MORE OFTEN ???

I may not be a delivery rider but i think we shudnt blame the riders for any late orders. Operators on the line shud be more proactive in informing us of the proper delivery timing. I dun mind if my order came late at least i know how long i shud wait for my orders to arrive. If its too late perhaps i wud just go get the food myself then next time wud i get the delivery service.

Customers are very demanding nowaday and they would complain if their orders come late complaining that the food is not hot and not crispy. It is not surprising that they would reject the food and the poor delivery man has to face the music for returning the food. Because of such, there are some pressure on the workers by the piza companies regardless of shine or rainy days that the workers have to go all out in speedy delivery.
