Scammers might use kids' personal information on lanterns to mislead parents
STOMPer Woan Ling is concerned that the details of school children left on lanterns decorated by them during a competition might be used by scammers to mislead parents.
Wrote the STOMPer:
"Today, I was at Chinatown admiring the lanterns decorated by children during the children's lantern painting competition.
"When I was looking at the lanterns, I was shocked to find that the competitor's details were written on cards attached to the lantern.
"This included the child's name, I/C or birth certificate number, telephone number and school name. This would be a great source of information for would-be scammers.
"They can call parents with details to execute kidnap scams... shouldn't the organizer remove all confidential details?"
