Some parents in Singapore, like this Indonesian tycoon, will go all out for their baby's birthday parties, even if it means forking out close to a million dollars for their child's first-month gala.

High-end floral and event designer Harijanto Setiawan recalled that the party had 300 guests and was held at luxury hotel Capella Singapore and decorations for the theme-park wonderland included a custom-made, life-sized carousel and forest -- created at the hotel from scratch.

The celebration also included ballerinas, singers, performers, rental of the ballroom which cost at least $15,000, an event planner and accommodation for the guests.

Another client of Mr Setiawan had his one-year-old child's party at a renowned Italian restaurant here some months ago that featured a three-tier cake from Shangri-La which cost about $3,000 and had an edible tier that was decorated with Swarovski crystals. There was also a photo booth, and gift pool for the kids.

Clients who throw such extravagant parties for their children are usually in their 20s and work either in the banking industry or run private businesses. These parties also double-up as networking events for some clients.

Next time when the girl grow up, she will definitely be upset with her dad who make use of her birthday party just to network his business.

I could've used that $1m, spent it on college, developed a medicine that could improve estrogen production levels. That would be something she would really want when she's 18, not some fancy schmancy dinner party,

Okay firstly, if you wanna say "Oh, it's a memorable birthday!" "awesome for my kids" and all that bullshit, think about it, will your kids remember about the party? they most likely can't remember childhood memories plus there are some kids out there that take things for granted, wasting a million dollars on some birthday party is seriously wasting money, OK? You can have a decent birthday party for your baby daughter for about 15 bucks? or around there? just turn off the lights, get candles, buy a small birthday cake that your baby daughter likes, cause' it's not like she can finish it all? so what if you're millionaire? might as well donate it? use it for charity work? It can buy like 500000 or slightly lesser packets of bread for the poor, starving people, think about it!
