A STOMPer saw a large group of soldiers at the Old Esplanade area during the National Day Parade yesterday (Aug 9) having their meals there and behaving in a disorderly manner.
Said the STOMPer:
"I saw this group of SAF soldiers at the old Esplanade area yesterday (National Day).
"They were hanging around that area for a long time, having their meals and sitting or standing around.
"I did not see any officer or higher authority taking charge of them or organising them.
"Presumably they were there to support for National Day event.
"It gives a poor image of SAF - no order and no control by officers.
"My concern is the lack of general discipline of these soldiers, which may be caused by lack of enforcement by Officers.
"The image of Singapore Army soldiers is poorly reflected to the public, including the crowd, which happened to have more foreigners than locals (in that area).
"There is no excuse for soldiers to behave poorly in public when in uniform.
"These soldiers should be sitting in properly set-up areas (in my opinion).
"The SOC guys were much better, perhaps because they had a clearer and more critical mission in hand."
