The top eight SingTel Grid Girls for 2012 have been unveiled, and they include students, a bank teller, a model, and a marketing executive.
The potential race queens, ranging from 18 to 23 years old, were chosen after one round of auditions and will compete to clinch one of the top three spots.
Only eight girls were chosen this year, compared to the 12 in previous years, in an attempt to raise the level of competition, said SingTel.
For the first time, this year's winners will be chosen solely by online and SMS voting. They will be crowned at a road show at East Coast Park on September 2.
The top three will win cash prizes and be at the front of the starting grid on race day. They will also hold the Singapore, Formula One™ and Singapore GP flags at the race to be held from September 21 - 23.
Members of the public will be able to vote for the favourite grid girls from August 3 to August 27.
