A Form One student of a prominent boarding school in Alor Star, Malaysia, ruptured his right eardrum after being allegedly assaulted by five senior students in the dormitory.
According to a report in The New Straits Times, the 13-year-old boy, Mohamad Hazim Mohamad Zaid, claimed he was asleep with fifty other students when the Form Five bullies barged into their domitory at 2.15am last Thursday.
Along with the bullies were also thirty Form Two and Form Three boarders.
"One of them directed us to do 250 squats before they started asking us to own up to any wrongdoings that we could have done over the past week," Hazim said at his grandparents' house in Gunung Keriang.
The teenager said he was slapped in the face two times by different seniors after having admitting that he failed to make his bed before leaving for class on Wednesday.
Hazim added that the others who had owned up to their mistakes were also slapped and flicked on the forehead, and were threatened to get beaten up if they reported the assault to anyone, including parents and wardens.
After complaining of dizziness and prickly pain in his right ear two days later, Hazim's parents brought him to a clinic.
The doctor informed them that Hazim would have to undergo surgery if his eardrum does not heal within a month.
Afraid for her son's safety at school, Hazim's mother, Nor Hapizah Puteh, lodged a report at the Kota Setar district police headquarters on the same day.
She said Hazim often came home with bumps and bruises all over his body that he would say he got from rugby practice.
After knowing the truth, she now wants the school to take action against the bullies.
