Lucky fans who attended South Korean girl group KARA's showcase yesterday not only had the chance to see them perform live, they got the chance to meet them in person and even smell them with the launch of their new scent, K5J.
Hailed as one of the top Korean girl groups in Korea and Japan, KARA threw an hour-long performance at their first-ever Singapore showcase on July 10 at the Festive Grand Theatre, Resorts World Sentosa.
Despite the absence of member Seungyeon, who had been admitted to hospital over the weekend, fans were in high spirits as the rest of the KARA members, Hara, Gyuri, Nicole and Jiyoung mesmerised them with their beautiful looks and got them pumping with performances of their chart-topping hits.
During an interview, Hara said she was shocked to see so many fans at the autograph session. And when asked if they knew they were so popular in Singapore, Nicole replied in fluent English that although they received many messages from fans on Twitter, they did not realise that they had so many fans in Singapore till they came here.
Fans were delighted to know that the girls had enjoyed their stay in Singapore. According to Nicole, the girls had black pepper crabs and chilli crabs the day before the showcase and all except Hara (Hara was not feeling well) went to Universal Studios Singapore.
As always, a showcase by a K-pop group will never be complete without interaction with the fans. Four lucky fans got the chance to get up-close and personal with their favourite idols when they were each picked by a KARA member to go on stage for polariod photo-taking and receiving the newly-launched KARA fragrance, K5J. Hara even held the hand of a fan to perform the dance of his favourite KARA song, ‘Step’.
And as if that was not enough, another four lucky fans were personally taught by Nicole the dance moves of KARA’s best hits, ‘Step’, ‘Honey’ and ‘Mister'. This showcase was part of KARA’s campaign to launch their own line of perfume called K5J, short for KARA 5 Jewel.
KARA is the first Korean artiste to have their own premium fragrance line. The girls created the perfume in Paris, France in 2011 and a video of the making of K5J perfume was played during the showcase.
According to Nicole, since KARA means sweet melody, they chose a sweet scent for the perfume.
It is very evident that KARA is loved by their fans in Singapore because of the love and warmth they have been showered with. To show their appreciation, the girls had prepared a special gift -- KARA’s signature perfume, K5J for everyone at the showcase. Fans were rejoiced to receive their idols’ fragrance as they not only have seen KARA, they now can smell KARA too.
