A 16-year-old schoolgirl in Terengganu kept her newborn baby girl in a schoolbag for 17 hours after giving birth in her school hostel on Tuesday (July 3).
According to the an article in AsiaOne, a fellow student had then kept her schoolbag not knowing there was a dead newborn inside.
Doctors only discovered about the birth when she had sought treatment regarding abdominal pains at a hospital.
Doctors then asked the girl to call her friend to bring the bag after a medical examination had confirmed she had just given birth.
The police said that a post mortem showed that they baby had been successfully delivered but had suffered bruises on the had and had water in the lungs.
They confirmed the case was being investigated as voluntarily causing the death of an infant, and that the police were also looking for the baby's father with a view to charging him with having sex with a minor.
