RazorTV recently interviewed Singaporeans their views on the SexyMandarin website, which uses scantily clad beautiful women to teach Mandarin. The interview highlighted that most Singaporeans viewed the website as inappropriate, rather than educational.
The online school has released nine videos of Mandarin lessons to date. These videos are available for free online.
Kaoru Kikuchi, an architecture graduate from the University of Nottingham, founded the school in December 2011. The Japanese-born model and designer aims to make Mandarin more accessible to the masses.
However, a majority of Singaporeans who were interviewed said that they found the videos demeaning to women and the langauage.
Some also felt that the website served more as a distraction rather than as an educational tool.
One individual who was interviewed said, "The videos are quite obscene, and they are making use of lust."
Another interviewee said, "The video gives you different kind of thoughts. You are not going to learn anything as such."
One woman even said, "It makes the girls and the language look cheap."
