An unemployed man was jailed for three-and-a-half years on Friday for having sex with a minor and housebreaking and theft by night.

Zulkifri Said, 23, had admitted to having sex on two occasions with the 13-year-old girl at staircase landings.

He also admitted breaking into Calvary Bible Presbyterian Church in Toa Ching Road with Muhammad Herwan Abdul Hamzah, 22, on March 4 this year and got away with property totalling $1,470. Herwan has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for the offence.

A district court heard that Zulkifri and the victim came to know each other over Facebook in 2010. They became a couple not long after that and were in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship for eight months before they broke up.

They remained friends and would meet each other.

Sometime between November 2010 and February last year, they met and had sex at a staircase landing at a Housing Board block in Toa Payoh.

Sometime in February last year, they met again and spent the night at his house.

The next day, she followed him to a staircase landing in Jurong where they again had sex.

A few days later, they had a quarrel and the victim took an unknown number of pills. She was warded.

A medical social worker reported the underage sex case on Feb 11 last year.

Two other charges of sex with the minor were taken into consideration during his sentencing.
