An 82-year-old woman was thrown from her seat after the bus she was on made a sudden right turn. She suffered a cut to the top right of her upper lip, a fractured hand, and multiple bruises on her face, neck and chest area as a result.
According to news reports, the accident happened last Thursday at about 4.10pm on board SMRT bus service 178 travelling along Bukit Batok Road towards Woodlands Interchange.
A passenger on the bus, Miss Julie Ann Marie Amen Sigue, alleges: "The driver was very reckless. He made a very sharp turn to the right. The bus was almost flying."
As a result, Madam Chan Lan Ching was thrown from her seat and her right cheek and mouth hit a seat across the aisle before she fell to the floor. Both Miss Sigue and an elderly man rushed to help Madam Chan, who had blood gushing from her nose and mouth.
Madam Chan suffered a cut to the top right of her upper lip, a fractured hand, and multiple bruises on her face, neck and chest area. She was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH) by ambulance after the driver contacted SMRT's Bus Operations Control Centre.
Her family is now seeking compensation from SMRT.

"Accidents can't be predicted, but driving carefully minimizes them."
