Think losing weight is difficult? Belmond Lee went from a whooping 146kg to 75kg. STOMPer karaoke wonders if other obese Singaporeans will try and follow suit.
According to a report in AsiaOne, Belmond Lee was 19 and suffering severe back and knee pain -- caused by the huge amount of excess weight he was carrying.
After undergoing a weight loss program which allowed him to shed 5kg, he made a life changing decision and decided to take up his doctor's suggestion to go for weight loss surgery.
He opted for sleeve gastrectomy, which is a minimally invasive surgery where a large portion of his stomach is cut out, leaving the stomach the size and shape of a large banana.
This meant that Belmond could no longer eat large quantities of food, and in just nine months, his excess weight melted off, leaving him 71kg lighter.
And more than a year later, he has maintain his new slim silhouette. His BMI is a healthy 22.6, and although he still suffers from backache, his knees are no longer a problem.
Said the STOMPer:
"Most people think losing weight is easy as long as you eat in moderation and exercise well, but some people can't help it because of their genes!
"Belmond's pretty brave to take that risk and undergo surgery.
"Also, its commendable that he remained disciplined enough to keep to a smaller diet even after the surgery.
"Too many people complain about being fat, but too few people have want to do anything about it...be it exercise, dieting or even surgery."
