Man who pushed old woman off bus defends his actions

Alex Ong, the 25-year-old who had shoved an old woman off a bus, has come forward with his side of the story. He had posted the comments on Facebook, after netizens reacted strongly to his actions.

According to a news report, the incident happened at 3.15pm on Tuesday (June 5), on SMRT bus service 167 travelling along Upper Thomson Road, before Thomson Plaza. The 76-year-old woman had pressed the bell at the last minute, causing it to stop a bus length after the stop.

Alex had shouted at the woman: "Next time, please don't press the bell so late."

She replied: "It's none of your business."

Following this, Mr Ong got up and rushed to towards the woman and raised his hand, threatening to slap her. The two shouted at each other before Mr Ong pushed her out the door. The bus driver, an elderly man, and a woman in her 40s stepped in to help the elderly woman.

The bus driver then helped the woman to a seat on the bus before the bus moved on to the next stop. The police were eventually called in and Mr Ong apologized to the elderly woman.

He said: 'I didn't mean to hurt her. It's just that when you're angry, your mind gets into a state of disarray."

The elderly woman had minor injuries, but refused to be taken to hospital by the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

"I can understand why the guy got angry, but his reaction is surprising.

"I would be irritated too because it's dangerous to press the bell at the last minute and make the bus driver come to a sudden stop, but I certainly would not get into an argument with and push an elderly woman!

"No matter what, we should not resort to violence. Nobody wins."

What a *****. Like I understand why he told her not to press the button so late but anything more than that is way too over the top! Even if he wanted to slap her... A 25 year old man slapping an elderly woman because she pressed the stop button a little late isn't really a reason or argument for his actions. If I was her and had a walking stick I would've jabbed him in the genitals. Karma is a *****. He's gonna get his turn one day!
