Yes, we do feel short-change that majority of FT will leave Sg if better opportunity exists elsewhere. Likewise, talented Sporeans will too uproot to other countries if they are offered better. That the downside of labor mobility. However, if Spore can retain 30% of this FT to settle here and start a family, it will benefit us tremendously.

Spore has no natural resources, except human capital. We are now a global city thanks to Sporeans but also to FT who make it possible. Less than 20 years ago we are just another regional city. Singapore cannot remain a regional city like KL or Bangkok where lives may be a little relax. We don't hv the hinterland to fall on like them. If we don't create a niche in this global world, we will be irrelevant. Investors & FTs will by-pass us, and by then we dont even need to discuss this issue.

If we see what we want to see, hear what we want to hear, understand what we want to understand, then we are not optimising our 3 senses.

I agreed according 2 ur scenario, but d truth is not as what u describe. Just look at reality, how many professionals came to SG got a job, got a PR & apply 4 'green' passport? I'd never know a 'green' passport, if I didn't chat with them.
How many really stay put & help 2 build strong family? The majority comes & minority stay. Open eyes 2 c, open ears 2 listen, open mind 2 understand.

A true-blue Sgporean. Born in KK, used to live in Tangiln Halt 10-storey, now Hougang.

Since u use 'family' as an analogy, I will do likewise.

A family needs to expand to be strong. If a couple married, it just 2 of them, nobody to look after them when old.

So they hv as many children as they can afford for old-age insurance. Let say, the couple has 2sons & 2 daughters. When the children grow up, they look after the parents. However, the children will one day get old. So they in turn need to hv children.

In pre-historic time, within own family , they hv children through incest. However, due to same blood, the off-springs are weak and mentally-challenged. So the whole family chain is weak .

To solve this, they invite outsiders into their family (by marriage) . They produce stronger off-springs and this cycle continues. Every new members are accepted and family stay united. Eventually the family becomes stronger and more productive. This is what Singapore shd be.

mingkorkor, u seem 2 have no confidence in urself and Singapore. Btw r u Singaporean? How our parents' parents come 2 Singapore?
To build a country is not just a 1 man show, it takes a grp of willing natives 2 build a country. Just like it takes a willing parent 2 build up a family. Must a family invites another party 2 build d family? Jealousy will invite itself to enter into the family.
As u can c, our population is out of proportion.
A family should help each other first b4 helping others. If d foundation of a family is not strong, cannot help themselves. There will b a problem helping others too.
If a pair of chopsticks can't pick up a fishball, it can't help to put into d mouth and d mouth can't chew and d stomach can't fill.
