Movie magic really works its hand in The Avengers movie, making Robert Downey Jr. fly, fight and even driver a super cool car -- that does not really exist. Check out how the team turned an old car into his stylish convertible.
Said STOMPer Stuck:
"In The Avengers movie, Tony Stark also known as Iron Man, drives an amazing Acura sports car around.
"It seems Honda (parent company of Acura) will be releasing the model in the future, and an actual car turned up at the red carpet event.
"However for the movie set, they did not have the car. So what did they do? They made it themselves.
"Basically they turned an old sports car with about 250,000 miles (402,336 km) on it that cost about USD$18,000 to USD$20,000 (S$23,000 to S$26,000).
"They used 3D data on the original production NSX and the 3D data of the concept from Honda and nested the data over each other to make the design fit perfectly.
"The fabrication shop had to build the car in just five weeks, with 'a variety of materials and tooling foams bonded them to the car in roughed-out block form'.
"A CNC machine was used to make the design. 'We machined the basic geometry into the foam, then hard coated it, then machined it again. It went on for two days, round the clock,' one of the guys who made it said.
"This is really cool, and really shows the amount of hard work that goes into making movies realistic and cool. Way to go!"
