A STOMPer caught sight of a mattress stuck to a wheel on an SBS bus. SBS Transit has since responded that the driver stopped immediately and managed to remove the mattress successfully before continuing on his journey.
The STOMPer apparently spotted the mattress on the wheel of bus service 79. The driver had tried unsuccessfully to remove the mattress, but was unable to and drove off, said the STOMPer in the STOMP contribution.
Ms Tammy Tan, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications, SBS Transit, clarified in a response (May 11):
"We would like to respond to the post 'Mattress gets stuck to wheel of SBS bus' which was published on STOMP yesterday (May 10).
"When the mattress was caught by the bus wheel, the Bus Captain stopped the bus and contacted our Operations Control Centre for assistance.
"With guidance from our Fleet Maintenance team, the Bus Captain was able to remove the mattress successfully and then continued on his journey.
"There was no way that the Bus Captain could have driven the bus in such a situation.
"In all, it took about five minutes to free the object from the wheel."
