SCDF personnel extinguished a blaze in a reclaimed land at the North-East of Singapore, near Changi and Tekong. There have been no reported injuries so far.
An SCDF spokesperson said:
"At 2:06pm, SCDF was alerted to a fire at above mentioned location.
"With the support of an SAF marine vessel, SCDF dispatched its vehicles and personnel to the location.
"One Fire Engine, one Red Rhino, one Supporting Vehicle and two SCDF Marine Fire Vessels were dispatched.
"The fire on the reclaimed land northeast of Singapore has been extinguished.
"The fire was about one football field in size and involved construction-site machinery and equipment, and products believed to be used in land reclamation.
"The fire was brought under control within one hour of SCDF arriving on the reclaimed land.
"This is also the first fire-fighting operation that involved SCDF’s new marine fire-fighting capability.
"Two marine fire vessels (Api Api 1 and 2) were deployed and assisted with the fire-fighting operation by pumping sea water to assist the fire-fighters on the ground fight the fire.
"The cause of fire is being investigated.
"There were no reported injuries so far."
STOMPer Chang spotted a huge blaze near reclaimed land near Changi and Tekong today (May 6).
Both the blaze and the smoke trail were spotted very far away from the actual scene.
Chang said:
"There was black smoke rising at Changi at around 2.15pm."
