What is our Merlion doing in China?

STOMPer Chee Keong spotted a statue of the Merlion in this park in China and wanted to share his pictures with STOMPers. He says:

"Does this figure look familiar to you?

"While I was having my vacation with my wife in China, I spotted this 'migrated' Merlion at a park.

"I believe this is something interesting to share.

"It is a gift from Singapore to China back in 1994.

"Therefore I hope the younger generation of Singapore can live peacefully together with the foreign Chinese nationals as the bond and close ties between us has long been established."

For all you know, it may be a TOMBSTONE for someone who likes the Merlion, or someone being a Singaporean resting in foreign land.

Thus the Merlion IS really standing 'in the middle of nowhere'.
