STOMPer Fruiterist went to a pineapple museum in Pontian, Johor, and would like to share what he saw with fellow STOMPers.
In an email to STOMP today (Sept 11), the STOMPer says:
“These pictures were taken at a pineapple museum in Pontian , Johor. The museum depicts the history of the Malaysian pineapple industry. You can see two white transparent shirts made from pineapple threads. They look quite similar to those worn by the Filipino men.
“Pineapple thread is made from the leaf and they come in various colours: black, red and orange.
“There are about 50 species of pineapples on display and pineapples come in all shapes and sizes. Some are spherical and others are either cylindrical or elongated.
“I asked the curator which is the best pineapple and he told me that it is the "Nanas Josapine" which is by far the sweetest and the most juicy . It is grown in a rich soil with special fertilizers.
“The pineapple farmer goes round with this sprayer to spray insecticide that kills the mealy bugs that usually attack the pineapple plant.”
