The check-in service at First World Hotel in Malaysia is so bad that STOMPer Al and his friends had to wait for three hours before they were checked in. He thus hopes that Singapore's upcoming casinos will not be as inefficient.
What shocked him the most was that the check-in counter was closed for lunch when he first arrived at the lobby. A lunch break is usually unheard of in the hospitality industry, he says.
Furthermore, there were more than 100 people waiting before him. The slow rate at which the staff served the hotel guests also did not help speed things up.
In an email, a frustrated STOMPer Al says:
"We had a long unpleasant wait to check into our hotel, First World Hotel, in Malaysia's Genting resorts.
"After a long seven-hour bus journey, we wanted to quickly check into our hotel and proceed with our holidaying plans in Genting.
"However, when we reached the check-in counter at 1.15pm, there was no staff on duty and a crowd had already started to build up.
"The reason is that there is a two-hour lunch break for staff until 2pm.
"This is the very first experience I had where a hotel's check-in service closes for lunch!
"We had to patiently wait for the registration to start, and when it started, the registration process was extremely slow!
"In addition, despite reaching at 1.15pm, there were more than 100 people in front of us in the queue.
"In the end, we only managed to check-in at 4pm, a waste of three hours.
"I really hope that when Genting Singapore's Resorts World commence operations in Sentosa, the service will be much better than the one in Malaysia."
