BFF Contest: 'We did not talk to each other for 5 months after a heated argument'

You Xiang said that once, he and his best friend Kok Beng had a heated argument, which led to them ignoring each other for five months. Yet, they overcame such adversities and remain best friends.

Said the STOMPer:

"I met Kok Beng when I was three years old and we both had just moved into a new HDB block in Woodlands in 1992.

"He stayed on the eighth floor while I stayed on the 12th floor. We begin off as mere kids having fun and enjoying ourselves.

"Little did we know, we ended up studying in the same primary school and secondary school.

"Back then in primary school, Kok beng was a sporty person, as for me, I fell ill most of the time and people often picked on me whenever we played catching.

"He will always help me escape and stand up for me. As I grew older, I knew he was the right friend for me, the one friend that I could ever depend on and have fun together.

"When we both got into the same secondary school, we were overjoyed and hoped to be in the same class.

"My wish came true, true enough both me and Kok Beng studied in the same class.

"In class, Kok Beng was weak in his studies, I often allow him to copy my homework as he didn't know the answers to some of the questions and in return he encouraged me to go for runs and soccer session to improve my health.

"We both joined NPCC as we had the interest for Police work. I still remember back then while in NPCC camp, Kok Beng was struggling with his knots tying and had problems, I offered him some help and he manage to cope with it.

"We then took 'O' Levels together but it wasn't going well for him, he didn't score well and ended up being retained another year in secondary school while I continued with my tertiary education.

"Despite this, I never gave up hope on him. He continued to work hard and eventually got better results and made his way into tertiary education.

"It was 2009, the year when I had to go for NS, and Kok beng was studying. He didn't have a chance to bid me farewell but throughout my NS life, he kept encouraging me and gave me the moral support which motivates me to be a better person.

"It was then his turn to go for NS and he ended up as a PNSF in 2010, whereas I am a 'Army Boy', but that didn't stopped me from hanging out with him.

"We talked a lot about our life and the problems we had and he never failed to find solutions for me neither did I disappoint him.

"From the time I knew Kok Beng till now, he never got into a relationship unlike me, I was the one who have been going on dates and meeting new people.

"Every time I had a failed relationship, Kok Beng will always be there to console me and tell me to stay positive.

"Have we ever had disagreement before? Yes, we did have a lot of disagreement, and there was one time when the argument got so heated up, I actually had stopped talking to him for about five months.

"In the end, Kok Beng came to me and apologised and I apologised too and we remained as Best Friends.

"Now, I am a Police regular and he is a PNSF, I had my career set although he didn't want to continue his career in the public service, I still regard him as a best friend and even called him my 'brother'.
