STOMPer Loo feels that more should be done to curb the careless and inconsiderate behaviour of pedestrians in Singapore, who not only endanger themselves, but other road-users as well.
The STOMPer contrasts this with his experience in China, where drivers apparently did not stop even when he was using pedestrian crossing.
Said the STOMPer:
"I saw in Stomp a video posted in the article 'Watch this chilling video to see how close a woman came to getting hit by car'.
"If the driver had hit, it would have been her fault with the driver's video evidence.
"Hope the authorities can fine pedestrians who do not use traffic lights, overhead bridges and zebra crossings to cross the road.
"Yesterday (Oct 10) at about 7.30am, I saw a man running across Houngang Avenue 3 during the peak hours, forcing vehicles and motorbikes to stop suddenly.
"This might have resulted in an accident, and could have been avoided if the man had used the overhead bridge about 8m away.
"Last year, when my family and I were in China, drivers did not even bother to stop when we were using the zebra crossing!
"Imagine how safe it is in Singapore when vehicles actually stop for us when we use the zebra crossings.
"But this is taken for granted and many Singaporeans jaywalk, dash suddenly onto the road, or simply take their own sweet time to cross the road.
"The authorities have built many overhead bridges, and pedestrian crossings. I hope more action can be taken against these pedestrians to prevent such accidents."
