Driver hits my car, then tells me to go 'claim the damage from his insurance'

STOMPer Cy says a driver hit his car then denied responsibility of the incident, telling him to go claim the damage himself from his insurance company. Later he discovered that the driver had not even reported the accident, leaving him in the lurch.

"I was travelling along South Canal Road when this vehicle came out from the side road and hit my rear. He denied all responsibility and told me to claim the damage from his insurance.

"I called up my insurance and they referred me to a workshop. The workshop told me that this fella did not report anything so they cannot process my claim.

"I called up his insurance company AXA and for obvious reasons they told me that they cannot do anything if he doesn't want to report it.

"As for him, of course he will not want to report the damage so that the other party cannot claim from him!

"Where is the justice?

"This is a loophole in our insurance and accident system.

"I've written to LTA and the SPF but have yet to get any response.

"In the meantime, if you see this car on the road, please get as far from him as possible.

"The driver is a irresponsible jerk."

whether claim from who... most important is the need to record both parties's particulars and insurance company. Take photo and video if possible otherwise no evidence... then report to your choice of accident report centre and request to claim his insurance. No need to report to police if no one is injured.
If he refuse to stop or refuse to give particulars, then let him go, but REMEMBER to take photo of license plate number and report to police for hit-and-run.

Think best is on the spot take down particulars then proceed together to log a police report, that way he should have no choice but to report to his insurer perhaps?

There is obviously an incident and GIA states that for every incident occurred, a claim has to be lodged within 24 hours. Party failing to do so will affect the party's NCD. Am surprised your claim of AXA's response.

Anyway, you have to do what's required on your part where the clearly states: the other party can choose to 'not to do' or 'challenge' but ultimately, I believe that the law is just!

Possible cases as such ought to be highlighted and it's incidents as such that will help and allow the relevant authorities to step in.

To all drivers, just take note of date, time, location and veh no. If possible, take some photos of the the vehicles before moving them away to the side of the road. Exchange particulars but if he refuse, there's nothing u can do bcos only the police can ask u to present ur ic. The above advice is for non injury accident.
